How about Amir Garrett last night against the Baltimore Orioles? Remember, its his rookie season and start number three of his MLB career.
In his start against a high power offense like Baltimore, Amir shut them down allowing two runs through seven innings, one walk and 12 strikeouts. He was making the Orioles whiff at everything he pitched. Its unfortunate that the Reds’ offense wet the bed and didn’t give him any run support, scoring zero runs on two hits. Garrett deserved a better outcome.
His first three starts, Garrett is 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA, 21 strikeouts to 3 walks. That’s crazy from a kid that was just playing college basketball at St Johns University.
The future is bright for this kid and down the road he could be the ace of the staff. That was something I didn’t expect to say during Spring Training because we weren’t sure he was going to make the roster. Garrett’s ceiling is very high and every time he pitches I’m glued to the TV.
Future of this pitching staff is bright. Hang in there, Reds fans.
